Bioassay Laboratory (BL) at Translational Health Science and Technology Institute (THSTI) is a core facility supporting development of vaccines and therapeutics. BL is part of the centralized network of laboratories of CEPI (Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations) for facilitating COVID-19 vaccine development. BL is also accredited by NABL (National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories) as per ISO 17025:2017 standard and is the only facility in a DBT institute offering accredited assays services to vaccine developers.
To facilitate development of vaccines and therapeutics with validated and accredited assay platforms as part of our mission for self-reliant India.

With an area of around 4000 sq. ft., the laboratory has been set up as per the guidelines of NABL (National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories) for compliance with ISO 17025:2017 standard. Unidirectional workflow is maintained to segregate the activities such as flow cytometry, serology, molecular testing, cell culture (clean and infection rooms). All equipment has been calibrated and validated as per the NABL requirements.

Bioassay laboratory is one of the four institutional support facilities of THSTI under the TRP funded by DBT. The TRP team under this project is actively working on cell culture-based assays and ELISA for Dengue, Chikungunya and SARS-CoV-2.
Bioassay lab at THSTI has been established with support from DBT's IndCEPI grant. Recently, BL was selected as one of the seventeen labs in the world to provide validated assays for COVID-19 vaccine development.
Since 2018, the core technical team has been working towards the establishment of Bioassay laboratory at THSTI
