Principle

The NanoSight NS300 instrument makes use of the properties of light scattering and Brownian motion. Using these properties it can estimate accurate size and concentration of nanoscale particle. This laser based instrument is easy to use. Using a specially aligned and focussed laser beam the NS300 device brightens the particles suspended in a liquid phase that due to Brownian motion are moving rapidly. This movement of the particles is recorded as a video file by the camera. This movemnet is tracked by the Nanoparticle Tracking Analysis (NTA) software and using the Stokes Einstein equation calculates their hydrodynamic diameters, tells the presence, size distribution, concentration and fluorescence of all type of nanoparticles from 10nm to 2000nm. The system can also be used to specifically measure fluorescently tagged particles.
