Being an organization where infectious diseases has been one of the focus areas, our scientists have been watchful of emerging infectious diseases. Our work on those diseases that have been around for centuries, decades and some for years, on diagnostics, vaccines and drugs, has prepared us. The COVID-19 pandemic and its harbinger, SARS-CoV-2, but, has kept us on our toes. Having said that, we have gone all out with our efforts, with the support of our parent agency Department of Biotechnology (DBT) and our partnering agencies, in academia, hospitals and industry.
THSTI has the mandate of developing innovative solutions for public health challenges faced by India. This made it one of the first research institutes in India to start working on SARS-CoV2 and COVID-19. Today our involvement is manifold with endeavours primarily including but not limited to*:
