Dr. Lovejeet Kaur is trained in Biological Anthropology, with focus on nutrition and epi/genetics. Currently, she is working in the Department of Maternal and Child Health (MCH), THSTI, India and have research experience in the same domain for over a decade. Her research interest includes understanding the modifiable risk factors like nutrition and epigenetics of complex disorders. She has authored several articles on 1) vitamin, mineral and essential fatty acid deficiencies and their association with placental pathologies, and birth outcomes through maternal, placental & cord blood nutritional epi/genetics; and 2) inter/transgenerational effects of vitamin deficiencies on metabolic health outcomes.
Her current focus is on 1) Developmental Origins of Health and Disease (DOHaD) (in-utero programming) through peri-conception maternal and paternal nutrition, and 2) Understanding Postnatal-Lactational programming through breast milk nutrition. This research would help in exploring unique windows of opportunity within the ‘first 1000 days’ of life to intervene/tackle adverse health outcomes in mothers and infants. To investigate the same, she is employing multipronged approach, i.e. parallel work on human cohorts, animal models and cell lines.
